I worked with Steve as an Associate Director of the Global Food and Environment Institute he set up at Leeds University. I will always remember the joy in his work, his positivity, and the tremendous energy he brought to everything he did. He was so supportive of my own work and found time to help me achieve things in my career I never thought were possible. I remember most how kind he was and that he could always make me laugh even during the trickiest work meetings. I always left our meetings with a smile on my face and the enthusiasm to deal with the challenging work ahead. He was that very rare thing- a truly great academic. I am sending my thoughts to his family at this very sad time.
