Steve acted as external examiner between for the Geochemistry MSc's during my time leading these programmes. He was always extremely constructive and supportive, giving praise freely where he thought it was due and offering a wealth of practical suggestions for improvements – he made a huge difference. Once he joined Leeds, he also played a similar but informal role in supporting me in the ESSI leadership position. A genuine, lovely person to be around. He will be really missed.
