It is difficult to come to terms with the fact that Steve is no longer with us. Knowing Steve has been an absolute privilege; working closely with him, learning from him. Through countless meetings, trips and engagements, what comes back to me the most are the smiles, laughter and Steve’s boundless positivity. These made every event more enjoyable, and because of that, more productive. Steve was also incredibly generous and selfless, with a strong sense of equity and empathy, making him so effective and appreciated as a mentor and champion for the people who worked with him. These characteristics also explain why he was so well placed to provide leadership in tackling the grand global challenges around food, climate and sustainability. His passion for making the world a better place, locally, regionally and globally was truly inspirational. It didn’t take much for Steve’s face to light up, but the greatest sense of joy always shone out when he talked about his family. He was such a proud and devoted husband and father, and my heart goes out to you all.
